Who we are

My work explores the intersection of shape and form, questioning how we perceive and construct the human body through abstraction. I’m particularly interested in how compositional choices—like ambiguous figure-ground relationships—affect the way we engage with emotional narratives. This exploration is refined through the tension between shape and form, inviting viewers to navigate a space where boundaries are constantly shifting.

At the core of my practice is a focus on the complexities of abuse—both personal and collective. Many of my pieces feature figures that are entangled in moments of conflict or subjected to abusive dynamics. These forms are often embedded within or camouflaged by the background, creating a visual struggle for recognition. This tension reflects how society frequently ignores or obscures the experiences of victims.

By blurring the line between figure and ground, I create a "slow read" for the viewer encouraging prolonged observation and deeper reflection. My process is highly intuitive, using expressive brushstrokes that create both translucent and opaque textures. Color also plays a crucial role in softening the more violent emotional undertones of the work. Across multiple pieces including Touch and Reach I’ve carried a consistent palette that tempers the intensity of the subject matter, making space for subtlety and introspection.

This approach not only guides my painting process but also serves as a framework for addressing difficult themes with care and complexity. Through this work, I aim to amplify conversations around abuse and visibility, offering a visual language that speaks to struggle, resilience, and the search for recognition.
